Old news that was making the front page too long: Update March 28, 11:45PM PST This may be old news to frequent forum visitors, but a new source has been found for the Apex that has them
in stock and at a reasonable price. The store is called Heartland America. See our Where to Buy section for more details.
Update March 27, 2:45AM PST The Links section has been updated to reflect the recent press that the Apex has been getting. Remote codes have been found! See the details here. Update March 27, 1:50AM PST The Forums have been upgraded and moved! In an ongoing effort to get the Apex stuff moved off of my slow internet connection, I have moved the Phorum system to a server at my office. My ultimate goal is to have the forums up with the rest of the site on HostPro, but doing so securely requires some screwy CGI wrappers that I don't have debugged yet.
Anyway, since I had to reconfigure the entire Phorum system anyway, I slipped in the latest version. You'll notice a few changes:
- All messages in a thread can be viewed on one page. This is the default view mode now, but you can change it if you like.
- In collapsed mode, the latest reply date is shown in the right-hand column
- New search features
I have set my server to automatically direct you to the new forums, but many of you will want to change your bookmarks accordingly. It's also likely that links to specific messages will now be broken as
well. Sorry for the inconvenience. Update March 22, 11:00AM PST The site has been moved to its new home, but the DNS setup isn't quite ready, so for now you're still getting redirected to its new
IP. Everything else should continue working. If not please drop me an email... Update March 22, 2:45AM PST Okay, WHOA!! We've been Slashdotted (and
Wired'd this morning actually). Apparently the MPAA thought it'd look into the Apex, which has sparked a flurry of news articles about the Apex, all of which decided to point at this site. For the last few days
I've been in the process of doing site updates, adding new sections, and securing some hosting outside of my house (and cable modem). Apparently I wasn't fast enough, and now I got caught with my pants down.
Temporarily, I've moved the main pages to Xoom.com (as you probably noticed by the banner up above). This lets the Slashdot folks get the secret menu info quickly and find out about the Apex. The forums, FAQ
and mailing list still remain on my server at nerd-out.com. Tomorrow morning I will have a permanent web host set up with mucho bandwith, and then will get rid of the Xoom.com redirect.
Meanwhile, if you find any broken pieces please email me at jpenix@nerd-out.com. Just for fun, the two main articles that are driving all the traffic here: http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=00/03/21/1233235&mode=thread http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,1282,35028,00.html Update March 2, 1:55AM PST
I'm alive! Sorry for the lack of news updates. Old news has moved to the Old News page, in case anyone misses it. Apex DVDs must be selling like hotcakes, because
the amount of traffic this site has been receiving has exploded. If you're interested, you can see the website log stats here. As a result of this, I'm
going to have to make some changes to the infrastructure here. See my messages (two posts, entitled: "Site Speed" and "Forum Software") in the Website Issues forum, and please give me your feedback
there. Thanks to everyone for taking the initiative and contributing to the FAQ system. Be sure to sign up for the Apex email discussion list. It has been quite lively lately. And if you haven't been subscribed, but want to see what's been
discussed, there are archives to browse. Update January 25, 1:05AM PST By popular request, scans of the Apex manual are now
online (yes, I'm aware pages 20 and 30 are missing - I'll fix that ASAP). Click the Manual button on the left to see it. Thanks to Scott Deasy for scanning and sending them in. He's also made a PDF
file available. Update January 20, 3:30AM PST The FAQ is online! I've implemented "FAQ-O-Matic" - a community FAQ system. It's better than the usual static FAQ. See my forum post here to get details. Click here, or on the Info/FAQs button on
the left to get to the FAQ.. I have changed the color scheme of the Secret Menu page. Turns out the white-on-black was not printable by people who wanted hard-copy documentation.
Update January 15, 1:30PM PST Sincere thanks to TcP and Icedragon, the brothers who broke the Region/Macrovision "Loophole"
menu news, for sending over a guide to accessing the menu, complete with pictures. The guide can be found on this site's left-hand nav bar, under "Secret Menu."
Update January 14, 1:30AM PST Ars Technica has kindly linked to us on their news page, so expect traffic to pick up substantially. Geek.com has posted an online review of the 600A. I've peppered the forums with info that users have submitted to me through email, so check there for new posts.
