APEX AD-500B

From the outside, the Apex AD-500B looks exactly like the AD-500W. And on the inside, MOST versions of the 500B can accept the same region-free/Macrovision-free firmware that works on the 500W.

To determine what version of the 500B you have, you need to open up the player. Look at the section of the circuit board which resembles the following:

Look for a sticker (like the one shown above) on top of the rectangular-shaped chip. If the sticker has any of the following written on it,
then your 500B should be compatible with 500W firmware:

APE-500B-2
APE-500B-4A
APE-500B-5
APE-500B-6

Everything written there should be applicable to your AD-500B.

HOWEVER, if the sticker says APE-500B-4 (no 'A' at the end), then your player is probably NOT compatible with the 500W firmware. There is no region/Macrovision fix for your 500B. Sorry.
