Playing a PAL disc (VCD or DVD) in NTSC is easy because the video chip inside the DVD player can convert the signal. By default the AD-500W comes set to "MULTI" output meaning it will output a PAL disc in PAL and an NTSC disc in NTSC.

If your television cannot handle the wrong format you can set the AD-500W to output always in the one format. You will know if your television cannot handle the wrong format because it usually shows a rolling image on the screen and may also be in black-and-white only. If this is happening to you the player can easily be fixed by pressing the "SYSTEM" button on the remote control until the picture gets better.

It is also possible to set the player permanently though the General Setup Menu.
