One For All Remote
Has your remote control failed, been lost, been chewed up by the dog, been flushed down the toilet by your children? Of have you bought a second hand DVD player only to find that the remote was not included? Up until now it has been a major problem trying to find a "universal" remote to work with most DVD players and original replacements (if available) have been downright expensive.
All that has now changed thanks to the magic "One For All" brand of remotes and a group of dedicated people who have worked out how to program them via something known as the "JP1 programming cable" for use on different equipment NOT already pre-programmed into the remote. How? That is something best left to the people responsible and the relevant websites. If you would like to know more visit Rob Crowe's site which will give you quite some grounding. From there you can also join the Yahoo Group JP1 Forum and ask questions and download files which will enable you to do your own tricks with your remote.
The purpose of my webpage here is to let people know there are real alternatives to finding an original remote and give options. The OFA remote I personally like and recommend is the URC-6012 which not only gives you the ability to replace your DVD remote, but also has the ability to control FIVE more pieces of equipment at the same time (giving you a total of six in all).

So therefore for LESS COST of buying a genuine replacement remote for your DVD player, you can have something that can emulate most of the functions of the original remote and control other equipment at the same time, therefore eliminating the need to swap remotes and avoid clutter on your table, armchair, etc!
What DVD players and other equipment are supported?
Many. In fact the possibilities of these remotes are almost limitless given the right tools which are available on the Yahoo JP1 group. Although the range is very extensive I can't support them all because I don't have access to all the equipment compatible with these remotes to test them all. Therefore I will only list here, and give specific details on, the range of DVD players I have tested a OFA remote with. Click the link to get more details on using an OFA remote with that particular player, or click on the picture to see a larger image of that remote:

If you want to buy an OFA remote for use on the listed players, or buy one to do your own testing and experimenting read below and find out how.
Where to buy a OFA remote
You can purchase OFA remotes from quite a large number of places around the world as listed on the One For All website, or you can email Rob Crowe directly and he will be happy to help, and be able to program a wider variety of equipment compatible with these remotes including a wider range of DVD players.
*Note that the URC-6012 can only be programmed with already known codes, either from the JP1 website or from the list of codes which come already factory pre-programmed inside the remote. If you want to add your own new codes that are not on the factory programmed list or on the JP1 website, you will need a OFA remote that not only has "JP1" connector capability but also one that has the ability to learn new codes. A good OFA remote for this purpose is the URC-8811 which is essentially the "big brother" of the URC-6012. They look and work very similar, but the URC-8811 can control up to 8 devices and has learning capability.

If you want a URC-8811 instead of a URC-6012, ask Rob Crowe and he can arrange the supply of one.
Rob can also both supply the JP1 programming cable if you want one to do your own experimenting. These are not needed if you just wish to just buy a URC-6012 pre-programmed with standard codes but is useful if you wish to do your own experimenting.

JP1 programming cable. Only needed if you wish to upload your own codes to the URC-6012 or URC-8811
