DIGIX MEDIA DV-288

There are at least two different versions of the Digix Media DV-288. Externally (i.e. without opening the box), the easiest way to tell the difference is by looking at the serial number sticker, which is located somewhere on the box.

The second version uses the MediaTek MT1369 video processor and a non-IDE loader.
These units have serial numbers that begin with "DV288";
the serial number sticker also says "Version 1.4",
or something else using the "Version x.x" template.

The first version uses an ESS ES6008F video processor and an IDE loader.
These units have serial numbers that begin with the letters "YE". They may
also contain information that says "Manufactured Q1 2003", or something similar.

Another difference between the two versions is that they have totally different remote controls.

The second version uses a remote control which looks SIMILAR to
(but NOT identical to) the remote control pictured
here.

The first version use a remote control which looks SIMILAR to (but definitely
NOT identical to) the remote control pictured
here.

SECOND VERSION a.k.a. "VERSION 1.4"

The sequence for changing the region setting on the second version is as follows.
This information has been provided courtesy of "electronika", and several contributors
from the
All Other Players forum, such as "pacman" --

1. Open the disc tray

2. Push the following buttons on the remote control:

SETUP
1 3 6 9 8 8 8 8

3. A new menu item named VERSION will be added towards the
bottom of the main setup menu. Enter this VERSION menu.

4. Inside the VERSION menu, you will find an option labeled as
REGION or REGION CODE. Change the setting as needed, using
the up/down arrow keys on the remote control.
("00" should be the proper setting for region-free operation.)

5. Push SETUP to exit the menu.

FIRST VERSION

This sequence has NOT been verified, and probably does not work. If you
decide to try this, please report your findings at the
All Other Players forum:

1. Open the disc tray.

2. Push the following buttons on the remote control:

MENU
2 0 1 1 0

3. The words "SET OK" should appear on the screen.

4. The player should now be region-free.

There is no known way to change the Macr*vision setting
on either version of the Digix DV-288.

FIRMWARE

Firmware for the SENCOD version of the DV-288 is available. However, this firmware has not been modified in any way. So, there is really no reason to load this firmware in its current state.

If you are interested in examining the firmware, you can download it HERE.
It is believed (but not confirmed) that the "upgrade filename" (the name that the file must be
in order for the player to recognize the file) is 19112100.BIN, and that the upgrade CD must be labeled "UDV288001" (using the labeling option on your CD burning software.)

INTERNAL PICTURES

Here are some internal pictures from the SECOND version of the DV-288.
NOTE: The mainboard (2nd picture) is mounted UPSIDE DOWN, underneath
the loader (1st picture) --

Here are some internal pictures from the "JE" serial number version of the
Norcent DP-300. This version of the DP-300, internally, is very similar to the
FIRST version of the Digix DV-288:
