DAEWOO DVG-6000D

NOTE: If you want to disable Macrovision on the 6000D, scroll down towards the bottom of this page, to the section titled "DISABLING MACROVISION".

On all known versions of the Daewoo DVG-6000D, it is possible to enter the
"FACTORY CONTROL PAGE" and change the region setting
by doing the following:

1. Make sure that there is no disc inside the player.

2. Push the following buttons on the remote control:

SETUP
Stop (*not* "Step")
|<< (Skip Back)
>>| (Skip Forward)

However, what you see inside the REGION ID menu is not always the same.

Some firmware versions include an option for Region BYPASS:

Other firmware versions do NOT include an option for Region BYPASS:

Fortunately, a copy of the firmware which includes the BYPASS option is available for download from this Web site. You should be able to safely load this firmware on your player.
If you are interested, please continue reading.

(NOTE: For testing purposes, this firmware was loaded on a similar model player, and the player FROZE when entering the REGION ID menu. The master power switch on the rear had to be cycled in order to regain use of the player. However, the 6000D owner who provided this firmware from his player did not have any such problems, so it is assumed that the firmware will work on other 6000D machines.)

1. There are 2 copies of the firmware available.

If you require ENGLISH, FRENCH or SPANISH on-screen menus, download THIS firmware.

If you require ENGLISH, GERMAN, or ITALIAN on-screen menus, download THIS firmware.

(To change the language of the on-screen menus, push SETUP on the remote control, then go into GENERAL SETUP, and enter the OSD LANG menu.)

2. Unzip the file you downloaded.

3. Burn the "BANK30.ROM" and "TEST20MB.TXT" files to a blank CD-R/CD-RW.
("TEST20MB.TXT" helps the player find "BANK30.ROM" more easily; it has no other function.)
Be sure to apply these specifications before burning the disc:
Data CD, ISO9660, Mode 1, "Close"/"Finalize" disc session.

(If you need help with burning the disc, you might want to check out this excellent article put together by the guys at Area 450. The article references Sampo firmware, but the burning specifications are the same. Be sure to "finalize" the disc, or the player probably won't be able to read it.)

4. Read this disclaimer:

DISCLAIMER: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I DO NOT OWN A DVG-6000D PLAYER SO I CANNOT TRY THIS CDR UPGRADE MYSELF. I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY RESULT TO YOUR PLAYER. PERFORMING
THE PROCEDURE DESCRIBED HERE MAY
VOID THE WARRANTY OF YOUR DVG-6000D!

5. Follow the directions in the "UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS" section
(scroll down).

6. After the upgrade is complete, attempt to enter the FACTORY CONTROL PAGE, as described at the top of this page.

UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS

1. Open up your player and verify that you have either the "AV3168" or "AV3169" video encoder chip. The AV3168 chip is pictured below:

If your unit somehow has a different video chip (highly unlikely, but you never know), it is possible that applying the patched firmware from this site will RUIN the player's firmware chip. So take the time to check first!

Also, look for a chip that says "ESS ES4318F". If it says something different, such as
"ESS ES43
08F", or "ESS ES4408F", DO NOT USE THE FIRMWARE AVAILABLE ON THIS PAGE!

2. Connect the player to your TV and the power supply.
3. Power on the player, and eject the disc tray.
4. Put the CD-R/CD-RW on the disc tray, written side down.
5. Close the disc tray.
6. The firmware upgrade process will now begin.

Here's what you see on the screen: (the pictures were taken from a very similar Daewoo player) --
a. the TV screen becomes blurry
b. "BANK30.ROM" appears on your TV screen:

c. "READ OK" and "BANK30.ROM" appear on your TV screen:

d. "WRITING" (which comes on and off about 3 times) and "BANK30.ROM" appear on your TV screen
(sorry, no picture available)

e. "DONE" and "BANK30.ROM" appear on your TV screen:

**DO NOT TURN OFF THE POWER**

7. Shortly thereafter, the disc tray SHOULD eject automatically and a message stating "PLEASE REMOVE DISC AND RESTART" MIGHT appear on your screen. Also, the power MAY automatically shut off. Whatever the case, take out the disc and cycle the power using the button on the front of the player.

If the disc tray does NOT eject automatically, and the picture goes blank as opposed to showing any messages,
**DO NOT TURN OFF THE POWER YET!!!** Instead...

a) After the picture goes blank, wait at least 5 minutes, and THEN turn OFF the Power.

b.) Wait at least 30 seconds. Then, turn ON the Power. AS SOON AS YOU SEE THE WORD "DISC LOADING" on the screen, eject the disc IMMEDIATELY! If you wait too long, the upgrade process will repeat - so if this is the case, DO NOT EJECT THE DISC! Be patient and repeat the steps above - it won't hurt your player if it is "reupgraded".
BUT IF YOU EJECT THE DISC WHILE THE PLAYER IS BEING UPGRADED, YOU MAY END UP RUINING THE FIRMWARE CHIP!!!!!!!

The upgrade is now complete.

DISABLING MACROVISION

At this time, there is no "pure" 6000D firmware available which has the Macrovision disabled. However, you can load a special "hybrid" firmware. This firmware is actually taken from an Electrohome EH-8181, but it has been modified to work perfectly with the Daewoo DVG-5000D/5000N.

Because the 6000D uses the same remote control as the 5000D/5000N, loading this hybrid firmware will allow you to retain full functionality of the remote. The VFD (front panel display) is also the same on the 5000D/5000N and 6000D. However, the front panel buttons on the 5000D/5000N are different than those on the 6000D, so loading this firmware on your 6000D will alter the functionality of the front panel buttons.

If you are interested, visit the Daewoo DVG-5000D/5000N page and scroll down to the section titled "IF YOU ARE USING THE COMPONENT VIDEO OUTPUT CONNECTION..."
